African & American Friendship Inc. is an organization that strives to empower Inner City, at-risk disadvantaged children and youth by providing them with accessible, comprehensive services, counseling, education, arts education and recreation in a diverse and supportive environment. Their agency “ After-school” program cultivate confidence, individual leadership skills and academic achievement in Inner City disadvantaged children and youth by providing an enriching and secure environment after school hours. The African and American Friendship, Inc. also has international programs; the Microeconomic program which is designed to assist poor unemployed African youth and young adults and gives them the tools they need to work their way out of poverty, by providing micro loans and business training to younger entrepreneurs to start, develop and expand their micro economic enterprises. AAF, Inc. hopes to expand economic opportunities in selected African countries, by providing technical assistance to young entrepreneurs. The Roslindale branch has a large collection of materials for use by young adults. Preschool story hours are offered weekly for children. Films for preschoolers are also frequently shown.

Emerald Society of the Boston Police, an organization for Police Officers of Irish descent: To develop a spirit of brotherhood and fellowship amongst it's members. To encourage a fuller participation in the activities of organizations existing within the police department. Encourage members to fully familiarize themselves with the prescribed, authorized and excepted practices and procedures of law enforcement in a courteous intelligent manner. To engender exemplary deportment on the part of it's members, thereby creating respect and good will for the police in the city. To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at all times. To inculcate and preserve in it's members the heritage of their Gaelic culture. To award scholarships annually to children and grand children of members of the society as provided in the by-laws of the society and also to the children of the members of the society who were in good standing at the time of their death.
